Day 18

I think it was Mrs. Toliver that mentioned my painting self-portrait and my avatar were different.
I hadn't really thought about it, but they are.
And since my kids are sick and I am trying to maintain a quiet house...
And it's raining outside...
I decided to try another self-portrait today.
Boy, it's hard.
Keara was talking about flaw-picking this morning...
How true that is.
Anyway, here's one I finally settled on being "okay".  I was aiming for no funky processing, just some general levels, etc.  It's tempting to want to hide behind some soft, muted colors or vintage look.
But, I didn't.
So I'm going to post it.
Really, I am.
Here goes...

  1. And it's (you are) beautiful! I am the same way in that I pick out my flaws when I am in the photos. I will have to build up the courage to do an individual photo. You have inspired me. I hope everyone feels better soon!

  2. You are beautiful! I love your self portrait! How did you set it up to focus on your eyes? I would love to do one like this and not in front of a mirror.

  3. You are both so kind.
Tracy, you can do it! I am looking forward to seeing your self-portrait. (And thanks, both kids are now on antibiotics and on the mend.)
Keara, I set the camera on a tripod and focused it on the point where I thought my face would go. I used a remote once I got in position. There were lots of shots that were not in focus, just to get a few that were. I have found that I am not very good with setting the timer - I just get all squirrely trying to get in position before the stupid thing goes off! Hope that explanation helps you with your self-portrait.

  4. This is a beautiful, classic shot, Jennifer. I know with self-portraits it requires many takes in order to get one or two good ones because you can't see what you're doing! You did a great job, and you look very lovely in your new yellow chair:)

  8. You are a beautiful lady ...nothing to fear about getting in front of the camera. Thanks for posting an honest photo. It bothers me when faces are so smoothed out that there is no detail whatsoever. You know where Grandma looks like she is 30!
